Define the complete gate project
Remotes, keypads, intercoms and app-based options have different requirements and are not automatically compatible with every gate. The installer should identify the existing controller and available wiring, power and connectivity before proposing equipment. State whether pedestrian access needs to be included.
Decisions that shape the specification
The number of users, distance to the house and available network or mobile connectivity influence suitable options. For shared properties, discuss how access is added, removed and handed over. Include any ongoing charges, administration and support expectations in the comparison.
Prepare for a useful site conversation
Provide photos of the gate, controller exterior and current entry devices, plus model details where visible. Describe delivery access and typical visitor arrangements. Do not share current entry codes or passwords in the public enquiry; setup details belong in the later private installation process.
Questions about intercoms & access control.
Can I open the gate from my phone?
Ask the installer to assess compatible options, connectivity and any ongoing costs for your system. App access is not assumed to be available for every existing gate.
Can one entry system serve residents and visitors?
Yes, that can be part of the design brief. Explain the different user groups so the installer can propose appropriate controls, administration and visitor access.
